Modern & Powerful Rotary Evaporators For Industrial Scale Operations
Have you used an “industrial” scale rotary evaporator before? If you have, we bet you can relate to a few things:
1. The size of the equipment feels industrial, but the capacity does not. (Whose marketing department decided to call it a “50 liter” system when it can only hold 25?)
2. The time it takes to start up the system is so long that you have to plan it into your workflow.
3. You cautiously hold your breath every time you need to handle that evaporation flask, which you do every run because you need to remove the residue from the flask.
4. The chillers can struggle to keep up, or don’t get cold enough for you to get great recovery rates.
5. They use a huge amount of electricity.
Large-scale rotary evaporators are just scaled-up versions of smaller benchtop rotovaps, with the same problems benchtop rotovaps have plus more due to the scaled up size. Why can’t you have an industrial rotary evaporator without any of these problems?
You can, because now you can have an EcoChyll.
We completely rethought what an industrial rotary evaporator should be, introducing a number of major improvements:
1. The EcoChyll eliminates the recirculating chiller, replacing it with a cooling system which feeds refrigerant directly from a compressor to the condenser’s cooling coil. This leads to a vastly lower pull-down time, over 95% faster than a recirculating chiller. It maintains temperature far more easily, improving recovery and protecting your vacuum pump. It does this while using less than a quarter of the electricity of a comparable recirculating chiller, which is the most electricity-intensive component of a rotary evaporator setup.
2. The EcoChyll uses a stirred upright flask instead of a rotating flask. This likewise uses much less electricity while allowing us to put a drain on the flask. Run over? Need to get your residue from the flask? Simple – just open a valve. No more handling a giant, fragile flask all the time. Ever have a rotation motor or flask lift give up on you? You would need to call a service technician. On an EcoChyll, there is no lift motor and if the overhead stirrer ever breaks, you can replace it very easily, helping you extend the functional life of your unit with minimal cost and maintenance. Perhaps most importantly: you can use the true, full-flask volume! A 50-liter system actually allows you to do 50 liter runs (and we have systems up to 200 liters).
3. The EcoChyll evaporation systems heat the flask using a large heating mantle instead of a water or oil-filled bath. This direct contact with the heating source is more efficient, saving electricity and providing faster warm-up times.
What does all this mean for you?
- Faster processing, with recovery rates of up to 100 liters per hour (for the 200 L EcoChyll X9).
- Energy savings of approximately 80% compared to traditional rotary evaporators (on a per-liter-evaporated basis).
- Less glassware handling, and therefore less possibility for breakage.
